Lampros K. Michalis is Professor of Cardiology in the School of Medicine, University of Ioannina, Greece, Director of University Hospital of Ioannina 2nd Department of Cardiology, President of the UEMS Cardiology Section and Vice President Elect of Hellenic Society of Cardiology. Professor Michalis was born in August 1960 in Arta, Greece. He graduated with distinction from the Medical School, University of Athens, Greece in 1984. He received scholarships from the National Foundation of Greece during the five out of the six undergraduate years in the Medical School. In 1989 he was awarded with Distinction for his MD Thesis from the Athens Medical School, Greece. In 1992 he became Member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK. He did his training in Cardiology in UK and he worked as a Lecturer in the School of Post Graduate Medicine of Keele University, UK, from September 1993 till May 1995. In May 1995 he was elected as Lecturer in Cardiology at the Medical School of Ioannina, Greece. In August 1999 he was elected as Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Medical School, University of Ioannina, Greece and in May 2005 as Professor of Cardiology in the same medical school. In 1997 he became Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. His research interests focus on: (a) clinical and experimental studies in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and peripheral arteriopathy; (b) bioengineering research projects, dealing with the development of soft-wares for the assessment of long duration ECG signals for the diagnosis of ischaemia and arrhythmias and hybrid imaging techniques of the coronary and peripheral arteries; (c) clinical research projects regarding the association of blood flow and atherosclerosis; and (d) clinical research projects inpre-clinical atherosclerosis. Most of the projects he has been involved are performed in collaboration with major research centers and received Grants from the Ministry of Research and Technology, as well as other organizations. He has participated, also, in many International Multicenter Studies. He has published 379 papers and he has been an invited speaker in many national and international congresses. He is a referee in 15 international peer review journals.
