CardioEgypt2008: Cardiac Imaging Symposium
The Egyptian Society of Cardiology hosted the 35th International Congress of the Egyptian Society of Cardiology, otherwise known as CardioEgypt 2008, from February 25 - 29, 2008 in Cairo. Organizing committee member and fellow ASNC International Council member, Dr. Adel Allam, reported that the total number of attendees exceeded 5,700 this year, which is an astounding almost 2,000 registration increase from 2007. The program covered all aspects of cardiology from prevention to prognosis, and included a symposium dedicated solely to cardiac imaging. Topics included multimodality SPECT-CT and PET-CT imaging for detecting CAD, the role of cardiac imaging in the evaluation of cardiomyopathy, the current status of CTA, myocardial ischemia imaging, and the evaluation of heart failure beyond LV assessment, to name a few. Among the speakers for the program were ASNC members Drs. George A. Beller, Diwakar Jain, Michael S. Shen, Ignasi Cario, and Juhani Knuuti. The meeting was extremely successful thanks to the dedication of the meeting organizers, chairpersons, and presenters.

Saudi Heart Association Nuclear Cardiac Imaging Sessions
The 19th Saudi Heart Association Annual Meeting took place from February 12-14, 2008 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The meeting is one of the largest attended cardiology meetings in the Middle East and hosted more than 90 speakers from over 26 countries around the globe this year. Discussions included several issues and updates in coronary artery diseases, valvular heart diseases, cardiac imaging, as well as adult and pediatric surgery. The meeting also held seven different workshops in all cardiology subspecialties, including one specializing in cardiac imaging. The cardiac imaging workshop focused on nuclear cardiology, CT angiography, and cardiac MR, and was presented by local and international members of the Saudi Nuclear Cardiology Society as well as international experts. ASNC Officers and Board Members, Drs. Gregory Thomas, Leslee Shaw, and Michael Freeman, presented the latest updates in risk stratification and multimodality approaches.
